Biography

My name is Mr. Peter Gormley.  I graduated at Queen's University, Belfast, 1977.  Fellow of the Royal College of Sureons in Ireland.  Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon in England.  Past President of Irish Institure of Otolaryngology. Past editor of The Proceedins of the Irish Otolaryngological Head and Neck Society.

Currently council member and treasurer of the Irish Institute of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.  Clinical lecturer in Otolaryngology in University Hospital, Galway.  Consultant ENT Surgeon in University College Hospital.  Private Practice in Bon Secours Hospital, Galway and Galway Clinic.

Past member of UEMS (European Body for advising on ENT matters in the EU medical structures)

Biography

Prof. Keogh graduated with honours from The National University of Ireland, Galway in 1992. He is Professor and Head of Discipline of ORL Surgery, NUI Galway and Galway University Hospitals. He is actively involved in research and teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Speciality training was under the auspices of The Royal College of Surgeons, Irish Higher Surgical Training Programme in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.

In 2000- 2002 he under took a research fellowship at The Department of Genetics, Harvard University and The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, M.A, U.S.A.

A Doctorate in Medicine was awarded in 2006 for this research into the molecular genetics of hearing loss and craniofacial abnormalities.

Intercollegiate Speciality Certificate and Certificates of Specialist Training were awarded in 2006. In 2006 – 2007 Professor Keogh undertook Clinical Fellowships in Otology and Anterior Skull Base Surgery at The Portmann Institute, Bordeaux, France and University Hospital Insespital, Bern, Switzerland.

Research interests include, Molecular Genetics of Hearing Loss, Safe Surgery – Human Factors & Nano-Biophotonics of Head and Neck Cancer. He has published numerous international peer reviewed publications, and book chapters. He has received and managed a number of academic research grants. In 2012 he was awarded the prestigious Benjamins prize for research by The Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum (CORLAS).

He undertakes all aspects of paediatric, adult and general ORL Surgery with a special interest in chronic ear disease (Otology), Hearing Loss, Children with special needs, Diseases of the nose (Rhinology) and throat (Laryngology).

Biography

Mr O’Connor is a native of Galway and a graduate of NUIG Medical School in 2000. He was appointed to the Irish Higher Surgical Training Programme in Ear, Nose & Throat ENT Surgery in 2004 and has received Specialist Training in teaching hospitals throughout Ireland. He was awarded his FRCS (ORL-HNS) in 2008.

Prior to his appointment as a Consultant Ear Nose & Throat Surgeon at the Bon Secours Hospital Galway he spent two years in Perth, Australia where he completed clinical fellowships in Paediatric Otolaryngology at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and in Head & Neck Cancer Surgery at Royal Perth Hospital. He has also completed a clinical fellowship in Otology in Plymouth, England.
He has published numerous peer-reviewed academic papers and has been awarded a number of academic prizes and distinctions. He was awarded a Masters in Surgery (MCh) for research he performed at NUIG. His current academic research interests include Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and the role of Human Papilloma Virus in Head & Neck Cancers. His main areas of clinical interest include paediatric otolaryngology, endoscopic sinus surgery, hearing loss, vertigo and all aspects of adult general otolaryngology.

Mr . Thavakumar Subramaniam

Biography

Mr Thavakumar Subramaniam MB (NUI) MCh, MD, FRCSI is a Consultant Otolaryngologist, Head & Neck Cancer Surgeon.

He graduated from the National University of Ireland Galway in 2010 and completed his Higher Surgical Training (SpR) in Ireland and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) in 2020.

He undertook a Fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck Cancer Surgery, Facial & Airway Reconstructive Surgery & Robotic Cancer Surgery at the McGill University Health Centre, Montreal, Canada. During this fellowship, Mr Thavakumar received training in advanced cancer ablative surgery, complex reconstruction techniques and robotic surgery for the treatment of advanced oropharyngeal cancer.

In addition to surgical training, Mr Thavakumar has a Master’s degree in Surgery (RCSI) and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Trinity College Dublin for his research on medical devices, neuromodulation and tinnitus treatment. His teaching portfolio includes appointments with the Royal College of Surgeons and Trinity College Dublin as a clinical lecturer in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.

He is currently appointed as an Otolaryngologist, Head and Neck Cancer Surgeon at University Hospital Galway Ireland.
