Bio:

Dr Griffin, originally from Tralee, is a Specialist Physiotherapist with expertise in the management of patients with complex persistent pain disorders. He holds a first-class honours degree in Physiotherapy and in 2013 was awarded a PhD in the area of low back pain. Derek’s academic and clinical interests are primarily in the area of persistent pain and he has worked with a number of leading clinicians in the field. Dr Griffin is a strong advocate of evidence-based practice and has been involved in campaigns to help disseminate scientific knowledge within the public domain. He was recently involved in writing a number of educational pieces on low back pain for the general public which were published in the Irish Independent and gained widespread publicity both nationally and internationally. Dr Griffin has presented his research findings at a number of conferences both nationally and internationally and regularly gives talks to healthcare professionals and patients on contemporary issues relating to Physiotherapy. In additional to his clinical work, he has previously lectured on the undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy programmes at the University of Limerick in the areas of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and Pain Science. Outside of Physiotherapy, Derek is a keen long distance runner and has taken part in many marathons over the past number of years.
