Rapid Assessment Respiratory Clinic

For patients with respiratory complaints incl post covid patients with respiratory issues that require outpatient specialist reviews incl. Post Covid patients with respiratory issues, the Rapid Assessment Respiratory Clinic is an innovative streamlined service for patients requiring timely expert respiratory opinion and investigations. The service is provided by a team of Consultant Respiratory Physicians. Patients are seen in a timely manner, tests are completed and evaluated and patients are reviewed by a respiratory physician as part of the appointment.

Suitable patients include those with:

  • Chronic cough
  • Exertional dyspnoea
  • Asthma / COPD
  • Bronchiectasis / Frequent respiratory infection
  • Interstitial lung disease / Sarcoidosis
  • Chest imaging abnormalities / Pulmonary nodules
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
  • Post COVID respiratory symptoms

  • Streamlined ‘same day’ pulmonary function testing
  • Rapid access to dedicated respiratory investigations including bronchoscopy & polysomnography

Potential outcomes for patient:

  • Patient is discharged with a comprehensive report returned to the referring GP the following day
  • Patient is referred for further investigation and evaluation which may include bronchoscopy, respiratory challenge test, CT or Sleep Study
  • Patient is referred to other specialties within the hospital possibly including Cardiology, GI etc.

Biography

Ross Morgan graduated from UCD in 1996 and undertook specialist registrar
training in Respiratory Medicine in Ireland followed by a 3 year fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at Boston University. He has been a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Beaumont Hospital since 2007 and is a Fellow of the RCPI and of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a council member of the Irish Thoracic Society and Chair of the Lung cancer group at the NCCP. He is also chairman of ASH Ireland.

His clinical and research interests are in lung cancer, pleural disease, airway inflammation and bronchoscopy.

Prof Emmet O Brien

Biography

Prof Emmet O Brien graduated from University College Cork in 2006, and completed Higher Specialist Training in Respiratory Medicine in 2016. He was awarded a PhD from RCSI for his work in translational respiratory medicine and has authored several publications and book chapters. Prof O Brien completed his fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in 2018 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre in Pittsburgh, USA, and was a practicing faculty member there before returning to Ireland in 2019.

In addition to working as part of our respiratory team at the Bon Secours Hospital Dublin,  Prof O’Brien works as a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Beaumont Hospital and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Medicine at the RCSI, where he is active in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Areas of Interest

Prof O Brien is clinically experienced in all areas of general respiratory and sleep medicine, with sub-specialist interests that include lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, COPD, sleep medicine, and advanced diagnostic bronchoscopy including EBUS.

Assessment Fee...................... €250 

 

Any additional tests that are required may be charged separately but these will be discussed in advance with the patient. Tests such as PFT are

covered by most private health insurance policies.

Many private health insurance policies also have an allowance towards consultant fees.

 

A receipt will be provided on the day for fees paid part of which may be able to be claimed back against personal tax at the end of the year.
