The General Surgery team at the Bon Secours Hospital Dublin includes 8 surgeons, Surgical Registrars and Specialist Nursing Teams. The Consultant team provides a full range of elective surgical services and has specialist colorectal, gastrointestinal, vascular, breast and endocrine surgeons on staff.  The highly experienced team offer both open and laparoscopic procedures as well as providing a surgical endoscopy service.

In recent years, the ambulatory day case surgery has developed significantly with streamlined admission process and minimum wait time allowing a patient to be discharged within hours of their procedure. The hospital has a very active day surgery programme whereby the team delivers as much surgery as possible using short stays and enhanced recovery programmes ensuring that patients recover faster and are in hospital for a shorter period of time.

The surgical department consists of 4 major operating theatres and two minor operating theatres. The hospital has invested significantly in modern laparoscopic equipment that allows more patients to receive minimally invasive treatment, greatly reducing recovery time and improves post operative comfort level for the patient.

The team has an excellent skill mix in both consultant staff and nursing. This allows patients to benefit from the latest techniques but also to receive the personalised care that only experienced doctors and nurses can provide.  The team also work closely with other specialists involved in a patients care to diagnose and provide timely surgical intervention for a range of conditions.

Infection control

The hospital has an extremely well developed infection control programme with state of the art decontamination facility. The hospital has invested significantly in both staff and processes to ensure that patients are thoroughly screened prior to admission, thereby greatly reducing the risk of hospital acquired infections.
