The Pathology Department of the Bon Secours Hospital Dublin is committed to providing a high quality, efficient clinical laboratory service with a walk-in facility for outpatients, with no appointment necessary and same day reporting for the majority of blood tests.
The Pathology team at the Bon Secours Hospital Dublin is a consultant led service and includes 31 scientific, assistant, clerical and phlebotomy staff, supporting 18 clinical units within the hospital including cardiology, endoscopy, surgery, medicine and oncology.
The Pathology Department performs a wide range of clinical laboratory investigations on biological samples utilising state of the art diagnostic analysers and techniques. These investigations are intended to prevent, identify and monitor diseases and their treatment. The investigations are performed by experienced scientific staff, supported by Consultant Pathologists in each of the disciplines.
The laboratories as part of the Bon Secours Hospital Dublin is also JCI accredited. This is an internationally recognised standard for best practice in patient care.

This diagnostic haematology service includes full blood counts and blood film examination, routine coagulation screening including PT-INR, APTT, Fibrinogen and D-Dimer tests. Blood borne infections such as malaria screens and infectious mononucleosis tests are also performed.

The Haemovigilance system serves to ensure the safety of the transfusion system, to educate staff in best transfusion practice, to show that problems are recognised and effectively tackled and to improve public confidence in the safety of blood and blood components.
The blood transfusion department, along with the haemovigilance officer, has responsibility for traceability of all blood products from the time received in the laboratory to administration / end point.
