Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) assesses and treats people with physical, mental or cognitive disorders so they can develop, recover or maintain their daily living and work skills

Occupational Therapy (OT) helps people to do the everyday things that they want to do and need to do when faced with illness, injury and disability or challenging life events.

The primary goal of OT, in fact, is to enable people to participate in the activites of everyday life and this is achieved by modifying the occupation or the environment to better support the individual.

Anyone of any age can benefit from OT if they are unable to, or find it difficult to participate in a desired activity. As Occupational Therapists we have training and knowledge in physical and psychosocial development and disorders, and therefore we look at the whole person and not just the physical aspects of the person's problem.

The Occupational Therapy Department was established in the Bon Secours Health System Cork in 2009. Both inpatients and outpatients are seen by the Occupational therapists. Occupational therapists look at the physical effects of ageing, injury or disease.  They help you to regain and or maintain your independence in your daily life.

Almost 3000 Occupational Therapy treatments are carried out each year by the Occupational Therapy team. We have large modern facilities and liase closely with consultants and GP's to meet individual patient needs.  Our programmes aim to restore and increase your level of health and fitness.  We strive to enchange your safe return to work, sport and recreation.

Our highly skilled Occupational Therapists can not only look at the physical effects of ageing, injury or disease, but also address the psycho-social, community and environmental factors that influence functional ability. An appointment with our service may be all it takes to get you back on the right track, promote your independence and improve your quality of life.

The Cork Bons Secours Occupational Therapy Service is committed to high quality patient care, specialising in a rang of Services as outlined.
