Prof. John J. Carey is a consultant physician in rheumatology and medicine at Galway University Hospitals since 2007, and Professor in rheumatology at The National University of Ireland, Galway since 2015. He completed medical school at University College Dublin, Ireland, and his post-graduate training in medicine, rheumatology and clinical research in the United States of America at Newton Wellesley Hospital, Boston University Medical Centre, The Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University. Prof. Carey worked as a consultant physician in medicine and rheumatology for several years prior to returning to Galway in 2007. His research focuses on observational studies in osteoporosis, arthritis and vasculitis, and he has won numerous awards for his research and patient care in the USA and Ireland. Prof. Carey is an active member of several professional medical societies, the current President of The International Society for Clinical Densitometry, and a member of the Committee of Scientific Advisors for the International Osteoporosis Foundation. He works with colleagues in Galway, Ireland and around the world to improve access to quality care for people with osteoporosis, arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. Prof. Carey provides private consultation services at Bon Secours Hospital Galway for osteoporosis, arthritis, and other rheumatic diseases.Back to top
