Guidelines for Pre & Post Travel Related COVID-19 Testing at BSHT

If you are experiencing a temperature over 37.8 degrees, a new continuous cough, lose your sense of smell and/or taste or you are self-isolating, please contact your GP.

Step 1: Appointment Requests:

Complete the self-referral form at the bottom of the page. Please note, one form must be completed per person.

Step 2: Appointment Confirmation

Our Laboratory Department will confirm your appointment date and time to via email. Please note that the routine hours for the swabbing clinic are daily between 8.15am-10am; Monday- Saturday.

Don’t call us, we will call you… Due to the high volume of requests, please be patient with us while we process your request (if you have not heard from us within 96 hours of your travel date from Ireland, please phone us on 066-7149814). Our routine office hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm.

Step 3: Payment

Once the booking form is completed, you will be re-directed to our payment page where a fee of €100 will be processed.

Step 4: Attend the Swabbing Clinic

Please bring proof of identification with you (Passport/Drivers License).

Our swabbing clinic is located in the Staff Carpark of the BSHT. The entrance to the Clinic is via the Matt Talbot Road. This is a drive through clinic and we will ask you to remain in your car.  To watch a short video on what to expect on attending our clinic please click here.

Step 5: Results

You will receive a text message with your results to the mobile number provided.

For people travelling onwards from Ireland an electronic or hardcopy of the report is provided. The report contains the following information:

  • Your Name, Date of Birth & Address (as provided on your booking form)
  • Name of the Laboratory (Bon Secours Hospital Tralee)
  • Date of collection of sample (Combined nasal and throat swab)
  • Name of Assay (Sars-CoV-2 RT-PCR)
  • Official Bon Secours Hospital Tralee Stamp

Please note that the method used in BSHT is the Gold-Standard Method real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (real-time RT-PCR).

In the event that a positive result is returned, the HSE Department of Public Health and the HSE Contact Tracing Team will also be notified.
