Covid Testing

Guidelines for Pre-Travel Related COVID-19 Testing (to Countries requiring a Negative COVID-19 Report)

Step 1: GP Referral

Please contact your GP for a referral for COVID-19 testing at BSHT. Ensure that at least 10 days notice (prior to travel date) is given. Ensure that the GP is aware of your travel date and that is included in the referral.

Your GP must send the referral via Healthlink or by emailing tcovidtesting@bonsecours.ie

Please note that from the 1st of December 2020 a GP referral is no longer required. A booking link will be available soon on this website to enable self-referrals (for travel related purposes only).

Step 2: Appointment Time

Our Laboratory Department will contact you with an appointment time to attending for swabbing for COVID-19. The swabbing clinic is run daily between 8.15am-9.45am; Monday- Saturday.

Don’t call us, we will call you… Due to the high volume of requests, please be patient with us while we process your request. In the event that you do need to make contact with us, please email tcovidtesting@bonsecours.ie  and we will get back to you as soon as possible (please note that the office hours are Monday-Friday 10am-4pm).

Step 3: Attend the Swabbing Clinic

Our swabbing clinic is located in the Staff Carpark of the BSHT. The entrance to the Clinic is via the Matt Talbot Road. Please note that this is a drive through clinic and we will ask you to remain in your car. Please blow your nose prior to the swab begin taken. A swab from your throat & your nose will be taken.

Step 4: Results

A laboratory report with the SARS-CoV-2 RNA (COVID-19) PCR will be issued for you. This report can be collected from the Main Hospital Reception 24 hours after the swab is collected. Alternatively a copy can be emailed to you.
