The purpose built breast cancer centre was built at a cost of 3million euro, and designed in accordance with current HIQA guidelines and opened in November 2009. The modern unit dedicated to Breast Cancer contains state–of-the-art facilities.
The centre is consultant led and delivered with a triple assessment service for all patients.
Triple assessment means that patients are seen by a surgeon, have imaging (mammogram / ultrasound) and biopsy (ultrasound guided core needle biopsy) done during the one visit. Tomosynthesis 3D mammography is performed on all suitable patients as routine.
Each patient is examined by the consultant prior to any tests being ordered. All procedures are carried out in the one department and the results of images are available on the same day.
An appointment time can be arranged with the GP or directly with the patient following GP referral. Referrals can be made via Healthlink or letter.
