Sports Medicine is an area of medicine which deals with promoting wellbeing through activity and exercise. Many people are put off by this term and assume that only professional sports people need a sports medicine assessment. This is not true. Most people don’t know how to exercise properly and can gain great insight into how therapeutic and safe exercise can be. Equally, if you have difficulty doing certain forms of exercise a sports medicine doctor can help to figure out why this might be as well as suggest alternative forms of exercise.

Patients are often surprised to discover that even if they are coming to have a sore elbow looked at, the rheumatologist will want to look at other joints also – such as the knee or ankle. For this reason we would ask that you wear loose clothing where possible. Ideally a pair of shorts under a tracksuit with a T-shirt would be worn.
