''Exceptional Care” at St Joseph’s Hospital Bon Secours Care Village reinforced by HIQA Report

Bon Secours Health System is delighted to announce that following a recent HIQA Inspection that the Care Village in Cork has received full compliance. This reinforces the commitment by Management and Staff to provide Quality and Exceptional Care for residents.

The HIQA Registration Inspection was carried out over 2 days in March 2017. Nollaig Broe Hospital Manager at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Care Village said: “We are delighted with the announcement. Our management and staff here at the Care Village were complimented on care for the residents, the facilities, the team, all of our departments, our resident involvement and participation and choice and freedom”. She continued “We were also commended for the high quality restaurant with fresh, healthy home cooked food taking into account resident and staff preferences, cleanliness, quality and safety and governance. Earlier this year, we at the Care Village also received a double Gold CAP Award for Catering and Cleaning reinforcing the high standard of facilities at the Care Village”. The HIQA Report found that “the residents were living fulfilled lives and their holistic needs were met” and commented on the “lovely peaceful views over the Lee Valley”.

Due to the high emphasis on Quality, Respect and Dignity at the Care Village and the demand for beds, a major expansion is due for completion in June 2018 and will provide an extra 30 private ensuite bedrooms, expansion of the Restaurant and Activities Room, a major revamp of garden space to include new walkways, a sensory garden, raised beds for planting by residents and a tranquil spaces. Minister Simon Coveney T.D. turned the sod on the development last December. The aim of the expansion is to meet the needs of the community and current residents by providing extra capacity in private ensuite accommodation for the Older Person to live their lives with Dignity and Respect in a gold standard facility with person centred care. Bookings are currently open for waiting lists for Spring 2018.

To facilitate this development there will also be a number of job opportunities at the Care Village in Cork for Nurses, Care Assistants, Catering and Household staff and other departments to join a team where they will be respected and supported and have the opportunity to develop their career. The Care Village is currently recruiting in all specialities in preparation for new expansion due for completion in Spring 2018 

The expansion of the Care Village in Cork is part of the Bon Secours Health System 2020 Plan launched at its Annual Conference in 2016. The 2020 Plan will see major investment of €150 million across all sites at the 5 JCI accredited hospitals across the country in Cork, Tralee, Galway Dublin and Limerick. This includes further developments in the coming months with the opening Consultant Suites in Tralee, the opening of a new Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory in Galway in June 2017, whilst work is beginning on a major capital project of some €70m, including a joint venture with UPMC to establish a state of the art Radiotherapy Centre at Bon Secours Hospital Cork.
